The Month Ahead - June 2011

With a new month swiftly approaching, I thought now would be the perfect time to discuss the month ahead and its game releases. Covering an eclectic range of genres, June looks to be a promising month for gamers worldwide.

Alice: Madness Returns

Alice: Madness Returns is an upcoming sequel to title American McGee's Alice. The game will include a one-time download code to obtain a copy of the original American McGee's Alice, which will be useful for those interested in this game but have yet to play the prequel.

The game takes place eleven years after it's prequel, which is also the same amount of time between the two games' releases. At the end of the original game, Alice was released from Rutledge's Insane Asylum and now lives under the care of a psychiatrist in Victorian London. The traumatic memories of her parents' continue to haunt and trouble Alice. Although the memories seemed stable for over ten years, she begins to experience the memories that were once repressed.
 


Infamous 2

Infamous 2 is an upcoming sequel to the to the title Infamous. Similar to its prequel, it will be a Playstation 3 exclusive. The game will be set in a new city named New Marais, which is a New-Orleans inspired city. The protagonist, Cole MacGarth heads there to enhance his electrical abilities.

The game opens with Cole battling the Beast in Empire City. With the company of his friend Zeke, Cole flees to New Marais to prepare for a confrontation with the Beast. Cole encounters the Militia, an organisation run by a man named Bertrand. The Militia have taken new Marais over in a bid to to keep all abnormal or superpowered individuals away. The protagonist will explore New Marais and learn more about himself. He will also be required to combat the Militia and obtain new abilities to defeat the Beast.


Red Faction: Armageddon

Red Faction: Armageddon is an upcoming third-person action title. It will be the fourth installment in the Red Faction series.

The game is set on the planet Mars. It takes place in the year 2170, 50 years after the events of Red Faction: Guerrilla. The surface of the planet becomes uninhabitable after its liberation. It occurred when the Terraformer was destroyed. The Colonists were forced to flee to the underground mines which were built by their ancestors. 

The game begins ten years after the relocation of the Colonists in 2170. The game follows Darius Manson, who is the grandson of Alec Mason and Samanya, the protagonists of Red Faction: Guerrilla. Few people ventured to the surface apart from contractors and smugglers who supplied goods between settlements. Darius is tricked into opening a shaft in a Marauders temple which unleashes a race of Martian creatures, causing Armageddon on Mars.


F.E.A.R. 3

F.E.A.R. 3 is an upcoming first-person shooter. It will be the third installment of the F.E.A.R. series.

The F.E.A.R. Point Man and his squad had the mission to apprehend a man who commandered a battalion of Replicas at the Armacham research facility. This facility is located in the Northwestern city of Fairport. The Point Man swiftly learnt that the man was not working alone, he was in fact ordered to subdue his brother Paxton Fettel and his mother Alma Wade. The revelations did not hinder the Point Man, as he progressed with his orders to stop the targets at any cost. In a desperate bid to stop the homocidal wrath of the pair, the F.E.A.R. team initiated a series of events that had seemingly accomplished their goal. This decision was at the cost of the city, the inhabitants and the Point Man's squad.


The Sims 3: Generations

The Sims 3: Generations is the fourth expansion pack for The Sims 3. EA issued an official press release on the 5th of April 2011 in which the game was announced.

In The Sims 3: Generations, each life phase will have a unique theme. During the childhood life phase, imagination and make-believe are key elements. For teens, rebelling, parties, pranks and chaotic scenes have been added. Young adults and adults will focus on their relationships with others including having their own children and a more in-depth marriage process. Elders get to experience the joys of watching their grandchildren grow up and become a success whilst reminiscing about the golden years.

With the line up for June looking immensely impressive and E3 just around the corner, it looks to be a promising month for the gaming industry.
